ONLINE SHOP | NEW ARRIVAL【Stone Animals】
25 OCTOBER, 2024
Studiomama, run by Nina Tolstrup and Jack Mama, is pleased to announce the launch of Stone animals this month, which will be available at our ONLINE SHOP.
This book is a collection of animal-like stones found on numerous walks along the south coast of England, where the holiday home is located, and includes dozens of collected stones, the south coast landscape where they found the stones and the background at the time, and drawings by Jack Mama.
"Stone Animals" is considered to be a sister book to "The Off-Cuts Book", a book of creatures called 'Offcuts Creature' created from the scraps of the work Studiomama published in 2022.
"Stone Animals" is about stone and "The Off-Cuts Book" is about scrap wood, and both projects have a continuity in that they take stone and scrap wood in an abstract way and see them as living things.
The various characters that emerge from the beauty of nature's abstract forms can be interpreted in many different ways by the viewer's own imagination and may create their own unique story.
It also features contributions from design writer, curator and consultant Libby Sellers and figurative artist Cornelia Parker.
The book is available in a limited edition of 16 copies, each one with a different drawing of a 'Stone Animal' by Jack Mama.
Please note that drawings are not available for selection.

A limited number of new, expanded versions of The Off-Cuts book, first published by Studiomama in 2022, will also be available, signed by Jack Mama.
'The Off-Cuts' is, as the name suggests, a project using wood offcuts.
This book teaches the importance of finding value in everything, including what is generally called 'waste', and of genuinely enjoying the act of making, rather than evaluating it formally, such as its functionality.
